Samantha Hoffman

From Cary, North Carolina, Samantha Hoffman is a senior at UNC Chapel Hill graduating in May of 2025. Hoffman is a double major in Media and Journalism (B.A.) with a focus on broadcast journalism and Environmental Studies (B.A.) with a concentration in sustainability.
Hoffman takes a holistic approach to her journalism education. She started learning print and radio before television to polish her skills in writing and recording. She then dove into broadcast journalism her junior year. Hoffman has experience in every control room position for a live newscast. She now is a regular director, producer, and anchor across UNC’s live shows five days a week. She also started her own morning talk show at UNC Chapel Hill which she now executive produces. The show, “Rise and Shine,” is offered as an introductory course to broadcast journalism students. The summer into her senior year she gained real newsroom experience as a part time MMJ intern at WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, SC. She then was a Paris Olympics Correspondent in Paris, France for WRAL News in Raleigh, NC and WXII 12 News in Greensboro, NC. She now regularly contributes PKGs to WRAL News Digital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Some of these PKGs landed her the award of a top 20 student reporter nationwide for the 2024-25 Hearst Journalism Awards’ Feature Reporting category.
